Abstract: It is demonstrated that neglecting permeability anisotropy in lateral plane may lead to misinterpretation of the data of laboratory studies. It is necessary from the start to take into account the possible anisotropy of formation and to make measurements after additional researches that can be used to determine the presence of anisotropy and principal directions of the tensor of permeability coefficients. Further, it is necessary to make measurements along the principal directions
