Abstract: The results of a detailed analysis of reservoirs of a number of fields of the West Siberian petroleum province are presented. It is established that a filter system can form in the sediments with porosity and permeability generally below conditioned. The probability of oil moving from country rock into the reservoir rock is substantiated. In this regard, it is suggested to take into account the hydrocarbons saturating non-reservoir rocks when evaluating geological reserves. The question of the need to develop methods of calculation of the renewable oil and gas reserves in the modern world is considered.

Abstract: The nature of the pores and cavities development in the carbonate sediments is considered. The epigenetic processes that control the behavior of the properties of voids are analyzed. Basing on the comprehensive analysis of theory and results of research of the rocks of the Caspian, West Siberian, East Siberian and Timan-Pechora oil and gas provinces three zones of existence of optimal pores and cavities in the carbonate sediments are identified.
