Abstract: A brief history of the development of theoretical and experimental study of thermal regimes of large diameter gas mains is presented. The work was begun by prof. N.I. Belokon in 1956. Solutions to vital gas industry problems which have been implemented are suggested. Methods of controlling and optimizing thermal regimes of gas mains and gas air cooling units of compressor stations are considered. Methods and computation program of gas air cooling units of compressor stations for developing the software for the controller's working position at a compressor station are presented. The participation of the authors in creating home-produced gas air cooling units to the working pressure of 7.36 Mpa is discussed.
