Effect of bed thickness on size of specific fragment of reservoir and horizontal wellbore structure

Abstract: We studied the effect of bed thickness, as one of the main parameters that determine the size of a specific fragment per one horizontal well. The length of the horizontal borehole affects the coefficients of filtration resistance to a greater extent than the bed thickness, but an unjustified increase in the length of the horizontal section is not economically feasible. The inflow rate of gas decreases at each linear meter of the reservoir with increasing bottomhole pressure along the length of the horizontal wellbore. For real fields, examples are given on the rational choice of the size of a reservoir fragment penetrated by a horizontal well, with respect for the reservoir parameters and the degree of reservoir penetration, leading to an increase in well productivity

Abstract: We have analyzed the effect of asymmetry of the horizontal wellbore placement along the reservoir. Studies of the location of horizontal wells have shown that the performance of such wells will vary significantly with the thickness of the reservoir, as this is predetermined by increased distance from the horizontal wellbore. The authors carried out the necessary gas-hydrodynamic calculations to use these to design the development of gas and gas condensate fields with different capacitive filtration properties. The results of these calculations are given in the article in tabular and graphical forms, which can be used in practical calculations to determine the number of horizontal wells to be drilled, taking into account the asymmetric placement of such wells in the reservoir thickness

Abstract: The technology of gas dynamic studies of horizontal wells of the Kushchevsky UGS and determining the coefficients of the filtration resistance ag and bg is analyzed. Horizontal wells of the Kuschevsky UGS were studied according to the method of conducting research on vertical wells without taking into account the features for horizontal wells. It is determined that the actual operating time of the well in the test modes is not comparable to the required stabilization time, therefore pressures and flow rates are not stabilized. The use of classical technology for research on stationary filtration modes developed for vertical wells is impractical for horizontal wells. The article presents the existing methods for determining the coefficients of filtration resistance

Abstract: Performance of horizontal gas wells is reduced in the process of development as the reservoir pressure reduces. The classical method of designing gas and gas-condensate fields using vertical wells only allowed to maintain the initial production rate by increasing the depression on the reservoir, while maintaining continuous annual production rate was only possible by drilling a significant number of new wells. Maintaining the initial production rate is possible by drilling necessary length and diameter of the horizontal section at an early stage, and be periodically lengthening the horizontal section in the process of the development depen- ding on the intensity of the falling reservoir pressure. The proposed technology will allow improvement of the efficiency of the development of deposits of natural gas.

Abstract: For increase in the period of continuous annual gas production from fields the number of vertical wells increases. At application of horizontal wells continuous annual selection in the course of development can be provided by increase only in length of a horizontal site that significantly increases profitability of develop-ment of a deposit. Results of influence of increase in length of a horizontal site by coefficients of filtrational resistance which are necessary for forecasting of an output are presented. Abstract: As a rule well flow rates are determined as average along layer thickness due to the lack of detailed interval information under completion of heterogeneous strata. Well flow rates and coefficient values for the linear component of the gas influx equation in a horizontal well are estimated. The reliability of the estimate of the horizontal well flow rate was verified by the «accurate» numerical method using extended linear filtration law by modeling the strip domain of the well exposed by the horizontal hole. This allowed to identify the rate of influence of the quadratic component of the equation of gas influx into the horizontal well. The results of the mathematical experiments allow to identify relatively small errors of the effect of the quadratic component of the equation of gas influx into the horizontal well and thus to reduce the time of survey of these wells by reducing the number of the modes of operation and loss of gas during the surveys.

This is connected with: lack of conditions for full stabilization of pressure and flow rate under well operating conditions; invalid theory of gas influx: lack of conditions of pressure and flow rate stabilization under fan and cluster well pattern. In view of the above mentioned factors a new method and practice of horizontal and vertical gas wells surveying is proposed. The problems to be solved in connection with gas-hydrodynamic surveys of gas and gas condensate wells under steady-state filtration modes are identified

Authors: Zagid S. ALIYEV was born in 1935, graduated form the Industrial Institute in Baku. He got the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in 1964, became Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1984. KOTLYAROVA graduated from Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and in 1988, and in 2006 defended thesis on “Development of methods of research and technology of operation of horizontal gas wells, which penetrated into heterogeneous low-productivity reservoirs (for ONGKM case study)”. She is Associate professor of the Department of Development and Exploitation of Gas and Gas Condensate Fields at Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, author of more than 20 scientific papers on the development of natural gas fields using horizontal wells. Abstract: An approximate method for determining with an acceptable accuracy the performance of a horizontal gas well with partial penetration into the deposit in the form of a sector is proposed. To be able to determine the flow rate of a horizontal well, which penetrated into a fragment of a homogenous reservoir in the form of a sector a sector, we propose a method of replacing the sector with strip elements. The flow rate of these can be calculated using the formula for fully opened fragments.
